Lower Tariffs Take Effect Under New China Trade Deal

We are pleased to share an important update from the U.S. government regarding tariffs on certain goods imported from China. As part of a newly negotiated trade agreement with China, the United States will reduce certain tariffs applied under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which were originally introduced to combat the surge of opioids entering the country. Additionally, the U.S. will pause any increases to China’s reciprocal tariff rate for a period of one year.

🔻 Reduction of the Additional Tariff

From November 10, 2025 (entries at or after 12:01 a.m. EST) the additional tariff rate applied to specific China-origin goods under the “fentanyl-related” category will be reduced. The rate will drop from 20% to 10%. This change is outlined in the official bulletin published by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in CSMS # 66749380. GovDelivery+1

📌 What It Means for You

  1. Fentanyl Tariff – The additional 20% tariff on imports from China imposed earlier this year in response to fentanyl-related concerns will be reduced to 10%, effective for goods entered or withdrawn for consumption on or after 12:01 a.m. EST, November 10, 2025.
  2. Reciprocal Tariff – The baseline 10% reciprocal tariff on imports from China will remain in effect through November 10, 2026, instead of increasing to 34%.
  3. Sections 301 and 232 Tariffs – These Executive Orders do not modify other underlying Sections 301 and 232 tariffs, which continue to apply to a wide range of Chinese goods, though certain Section 301 exclusions have been extended through November 10, 2026.
